about

We are always in duet with nature or life itself even.
Musically I like to think my ideas and me are in a dialogue. These songs were written for my own self soothing, or to get strength or feel comfort, or joy or let out tears.
The title track felt like a water song. Something about the rhythm reminded me of sailing with my dad. I can't remember if he mentioned this or if I thought of it or heard it somewhere, but sailing feels like the boat and the wind are the real captains and you are along for the ride helping guide the relationship of wind and boat. This articulated a feeling I have always felt in life. In some cases being a literal Co-Pilot. A passenger in the front seat, trying to give directions, picking out music or telling stories (mostly the last one). Each time i'm in that side seat I remember the other times and it is comforting and timeless.
The songs here are all quite different from each other but I think live together because I wrote them around the same time and they each serve a purpose for me. There isn't any improvising on this record. I came up with parts to the music but I wanted to go straight through the songs and let the songs do the talking. Simply put "no solos." It felt ridiculous to me to solo over layers of myself. I wanted to tell the stories of these songs as economically as possible.
This whole process was about learning, recording myself, writing lyrics in English and Spanish, mixing, mastering. The cover art is of me outside my tiny house where I lived for 2 years. I don't live there anymore and it's fitting that the release of this is a month after leaving that space. The space I was in writing most of the music and recording it all. It's a very homegrown record and I hope you enjoy it.
